Here at Scaramouche + Fandango we love our food. Digestives are nibbled throughout the office on a daily basis and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Except on Pancake Day. Then we want pancakes, obviously.
For some, the process of whipping up pancakes is just as enjoyable as consuming them. The whisking of the ingredients and the flipping of the pan is the highlight for many, and we do somewhat agree. The satisfaction of achieving the perfect flip of that little cake-of-pan is something indescribable, but it’s not for everyone, so we’ve whisked up the perfect list of the best pancake kitchens around the globe. Fingers crossed, there’s one near you!
The Breakfast Club has of course earned itself a place on this list. Its whacky design and incredible dishes make it the perfect place to visit on pancake day. It has locations spread across London with one lonely caf’ in Brighton. It’s also launching a special pancake day menu, available all day from the 20th – 28th, so you’ll be silly to miss out! Check it out here – The Breakfast Club –
Although this restaurant chain may not be greatly known for their pancakes, here at S+F we have always loved a stack of blueberry, banana and maple syrup pancakes from Giraffe. The pancakes are thick and fluffy and once stacked with your choice of toppings including banana, blueberry and bacon, you’re guaranteed to be left satisfied and smiling. With locations spread across the UK, Giraffe is an easily accessible eatery for your dose of pancake day pleasure. Be sure to check your location menu here to guarantee the serving times for their pancakes, as they may end before the afternoon is up.
Of course, the admirable IHOP (International House of Pancakes) is an eatery that springs to mind when you think about pancakes and the big US of A, although it’s probably not the best place to go if you want some authentic American pancakes, which they sometimes refer to as flapjacks. Bizarre? Maybe, but hey, they know what they’re doing when it comes to pancakes. Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe are an amazing pancake house and restaurant located in Chicago, Libertyville and Schaumburg. Besides an incredible offering of omelettes, sandwiches, french toast and waffles, Wildberry offers a brilliantly thought out menu of pancakes and crepes to suit the masses. If you’re in search of pancake indulgence, it’s definitely worth the trip.
Finding another pancake eatery worthy of this list wasn’t easy. Undoubtably there are many great pancake houses across the globe, but finding another European diner serving up perfect plates of pancake goodness seemed difficult, until we discovered Mook. Based in the country’s capital of Amsterdam, Mook Pancakes serves up the most delicious sweet and savoury pancakes, including plates suitable for the vegan eaters out there. The shops aesthetic is beautifully minimal, and the stacks of pancakes definitely take centre stage. You can find them here on Facebook so please, check these guys out if you’re hitting up the beautiful Dam.
On the streets of Berlin lies CABSLAM, otherwise known as The California Breakfast Slam. This American themed eatery serves Californian style breakfast and brunch all day in the heart of Neukölln, guaranteed to satisfy your pancake cravings. Rustic wood furnishings, cocktails and strawberry covered pancakes sound like quite the treat, so you’d be silly to miss it this pancake day. It also serves some incredible cakes and pastries, including home baked cinnamon buns so check them out here for a mouth watering experience.
So there you have a few of our favourite picks from across the globe. Whether you’re flipping at home or eating out, we hope you enjoy it as much as we will. Pancake day falls on the 28th of February, so make sure you don’t miss out on this perfect opportunity to indulge in some serious breakfast treats.
